In 2010, Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, will become the location of an exhilarating three-day snowmobiling gathering. From Friday, February 26th to Sunday the 28th, the Crow Snow Riders are thrilled to be hosting the Alberta Snowmobile Association (ASA) Mountain Jamboree. The weekend is packed with events that will electrify any sledding enthusiast.

Begin the Friday by socializing with other snowmobilers at a meet-and-greet in the Elks hall, complete with avalanche movies and music. Pre-registration will also be held at this time.

Experienced riders can gear up for an action-packed day Saturday and take part in a 100-kilometre north poker rally. There will be drag races and games for younger participants. In the evening, take off your boots and put on your dancing shoes for a banquet and dance.

On Sunday, try your luck 60 kilometres south in another poker rally—if you’re lucky, you might receive one of the prizes being distributed throughout the weekend.

Even those who do not snowmobile can take part in the Jamboree. How? The Crow Snow Riders are organizing an in-town poker rally, with bussing available to shuttle people around the community. This makes the event ideal for those who have never been to the Crowsnest Pass, as the bus will be stopping at local landmarks and points of interest. Participants will collect stamps or signatures from local businesses along the way.

  • How Does Snowmobiling Affect Caribou?

As most snowmobiling occurs in high elevation areas, there is the potential for snowmobiling to disturb and displace these animals from their preferred habitat into areas less suitable and more prone to avalanches. Mountain caribou may also become stressed, which can affect energy reserves during critical time periods. In addition, snowmobile trails can provide easier access for predators into areas occupied by mountain caribou. Please take caution and be aware of, and avoid, mountain caribou in your riding area.
