Polaris 800 Dura Kit from Mongoose Machine

Mongoose Machine, a powersports machine shop located in Port Coquitlam, B.C., is now offering a Polaris 800 Dura Kit. This kit is designed to help solve the piston failure issue that was common in the 2008 to 2014 Polaris 800 engine.

According to Mongoose Machine, the failure is caused by the piston clearance being too loose and the pistons being too short, which results in the pistons rocking back and forth in the cylinder bore. The piston will then start to scrape and cause damage to the cylinder wall.

The Polaris 800 Dura Kit is designed to eliminate this issue by adding a cylinder spacer to raise the piston height, which, in turn, allows taller pistons to be used. Mongoose Machine claims these two features, along with running a tighter clearance, will heavily reduce the ability for the pistons to rock inside the cylinder bore and will increase the durability of the Polaris 800 motor.

The kit includes:

  • Two custom Wiseco piston kits with oil holes for better lubrication (pistons come with rings, pin, circlips)
  • One lightweight aluminum cylinder spacer
  • Eight longer cylinder bolts
  • Two longer dowel pins
  • One base gasket
