Large stands of boreal forests, open tundra, smooth rolling hills, rugged mountains, magnificent glaciers, marshes and beautiful hot springs—these are just some of the things you will see on an Alaskan snowmobile tour.

Based at North Pole, Alaska, Alaska Snowmachine Adventures offers a variety of guided snowmobile tours—from intro and half-day rides to full-day and night rides.

Each tour begins with a driving lesson that teaches beginners basic operating skills. Guests then embark on the ride of their lifetime. Alaska's ever-changing landscape means experienced riders can choose to explore some of this state's more challenging terrain.

"We can take people to play in mountains that roll for miles and start at a few hundred feet above sea level to 7,500 feet in just a few miles," said owner Tony Martin.

A family affair
According to Martin, Alaska Snowmachine Adventures started out as a hobby and quickly turned into a full-time business venture.

"About 10 years ago, I was always giving out rides and buying and fixing snowmachines and decided one day to start doing it as a business," said Martin.

Now, Martin's entire family has a hand in the business. His wife Lorri and son Mike are fully-qualified guides and often lead tours of their own.

A memorable experience
Alaska has many attributes that make it such an intriguing place to explore. For one, it has some of North America's most diverse terrain—and that is where a snowmobile fits in perfectly.

"You can cover a lot of ground in a hurry," said Martin. "It's easy to climb hills, then turn around and go into valleys."

He added, "You can experience the great outdoors in comfort, cover the area you want to see, stop anywhere and be so remote that it would take you hours to get home yet the return trip just might be moments to home," said Martin.

Whether you are an beginner or seasoned sledhead, the tour is sure to be the highlight of your vacation.

"Everybody is always so happy that they went," said Martin. "A large percentage of the clients either extend the trip they are on or return for other trips—I get a lot of repeats."
