HIGH COUNTRY: In High Level, Alberta, you can expect a longer snowmobiling season and ideal conditions for a family trip any time of the winter.
When most places across Alberta are hurting for snow, chances are High Level will have plenty of the white stuff.
A true snowmobiling town
Snowmobiling is always a popular thing to do in this neck of the woods. Some riders in the community’s Watt Mountain Wanderers snowmobile club describe the area as Alberta’s true snowmobiling secret.
“Snowmobiling conditions up here make it well worth the trip,” said Jerry Chomiak, president of the Watt Mountain Wanderers.
“Last year in mid-October we had snow on the ground and in December we had close to four feet,” added Chomiak. “The conditions were absolutely unreal here last winter while a lot of other places in Alberta didn’t see that much snow.”
Endless trails
The High Level area boasts 350 kilometres of groomed trails. This region is ideal for families as the trails are on flat land and travel through beautiful boreal forests.
Watt Mountain Wanderers
The trails are all maintained by the Watt Mountain Wanderers snowmobile club, who provides a number of warm-up shelters along the way. From here, you can connect into La Crete’s trail system.
