Snow much fun to be had A vast snowmobiling area with an extensive groomed trail system is located about 16 kilometres south of Fernie off Morrisey Road. Beginners can explore the Minnesota Flats area, which can be accessed right outside of Fernie on the well-groomed Coal Creek Trail. As well, the Morrisey Trail and Hartley Lake Trail lead into large play areas and generally have low avalanche conditions. Sledders looking for a thrilling mountain ride should head to 29 Mile, Hollow Creek and Ram Creek, where they can leave their mark on tons of ungroomed trails while enjoying spectacular views. "This property is easy for beginners to access," said Sosnowski, "and offers unparalleled views of the Cedar Valley through ancient cedar forests and picturesque backcountry." Catering to recreationists The Fernie Snowmobile Club spends many hours each season grooming trails, erecting signs and maintaining two day-use cabins at Minnesota Flats and Ram Creek. It also does an excellent job of promoting sledding in the whole region. Fernie is a popular destination for winter enthusiasts of all sorts, boasting a world-class ski resort along with terrific dining and shopping options. |
