As a major gateway to B.C., Golden is a natural choice for many out-of-province snowmobilers because of its beautiful scenery, great snow conditions and convenient location. With plenty of easy-to-access trails that are fun for all levels of riders, this snowmobiler friendly community is a great spot to let loose and have some serious fun.

Awesome action
The most popular and well-known snowmobiling area around Golden is Quartz Creek—located off the Trans-Canada Highway about 30 minutes west of Golden. This well-maintained spot features nearly 20 kilometres of groomed trails that lead to a number of wide open areas. Quartz Creek is for anyone and everyone who shares a love of snowmobiling, as it accommodates both beginner and expert sledders. The Golden Snowmobile Club recently built a new cabin here that is available for public day use.

Other favourite spots around Golden include Silent Pass—situated 40 minutes south of Golden—as well as Gorman Lake, Hope Creek and Blaeberry Trail.

“Silent Pass is a little bit bigger of an area than Quartz Creek and has a lot of big hills and groomed trails,” said Mike Dhami, president of the Golden Trail Grooming Society. “It has a nice old cabin up there and is a fairly easy place to ride.”

For the adrenalin junkies who are looking for a little more than an easy ride, Gorman Lake is just the spot to do some extreme riding in virgin snow.

“It is a really beautiful area with a lot of big, steep hills,” said Dhami, “and if you’re not into that kind of terrain, Blaeberry Trail is a very easy-going trail ride that is only about a 10-minute drive north of Golden.”

Friendly faces
The town of Golden is a close-knit community that goes out of its way to welcome visitors and show them a good time.

“I have made a lot of friends from all over the country while out on the trails,” said Mike Dhami, “and they keep coming back for the great powder we have. I started snowmobiling about four years ago and have never looked back.”
