70 MILE HOUSE/100 mile house, b.c.
Always somewhere to go
The sledding adventures never end in this area

FULL OF POW: Bridge Lake, located east of 100 Mile House, is a great place to play in the powder.

From Bridge Lake to Green Lake, from 70 Mile House to 108 Mile, every corner of the south Cariboo has a trail leading somewhere. Snowmobile clubs abound and each club maintains a system of trails that criss-cross the region. Winter becomes serious business in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast: 100 Mile House sits at 925 metres (3,050 feet); Green Lake is at 1,080 metres (3,550 feet); and nearby trails lead up to the 1,800 metre level (6,000 feet). The snow is deep and lasts late into the spring.

The Interlakes, Bridge Lake, Green Lake, Clinton and 100 Mile House all have active snowmobile clubs. Members clear and maintain a network of trails that lead from Kamloops to the Fraser River. There is terrain for all skill levels and all interest levels.

The area is lake country; hundreds of lakes of all sizes span the region. On Green Lake, sledders make courses on the vast expanse of snow-covered ice. Most lakes will have a pattern of sled tracks throughout the winter but there are always enough lakes for everyone. In-between are fields and meadows, rolling hills, forests and mountains. Stay on the well-marked trails or break your own trail. The region has plenty of room to play.

Trails traverse the country-side around the Flying U Guest Ranch at Green Lake. The ranch has had a winter program since the mid-1970s and has 2,300 deeded acres with exclusive trails to offer guests. Bring your own sled or rent one from the ranch; either way you are in the heart of limitless snowmobiling country.

Mica Mountain near 100 Mile House has a system of developed trails, a groomer and a warming hut, the culmination of a partnership between Weldwood of Canada Ltd., Forest Renewal B.C. and the Mica Mountain Trail Riders club. Completed in 1998, they built 30 kilometres of groomed trail leading to the top of the mountain. And, of course, the trails lead to other trails, to other lakes and other adventures.

The sledding season in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast runs from the end of November to the end of February. It will run longer if the winter weather holds out as it did in '99. But with so many places, so many trails, even without an endless winter, the sledding adventures never end.
