Every day is like a vacation for Bruce and Princealine Moores. The retired couple—who used to make yearly pilgrimages from Calgary to their favourite snowmobiling destinations in B.C.—decided to save time and gas by making Sicamous their full-time home in 2005. With endless backcountry now just a short drive from their doorstep, Bruce and his wife couldn’t be happier.
“Sicamous truly is a four-seasons area,” said Bruce Moores. “It’s breathtaking and magnificent.”
One of the most important aspects of snowmobiling for the Mooreses, however, has been the sense of community they have found among snowmobilers. Their outings have become much more than just a recreational activity, bringing them into a social circle of sledders.
“We have met a lot of people here and now have a lot of good friends through snowmobiling,” said Moores. “It’s always a challenge to get to know people, but when you share some activity, then that’s the catalyst for that to happen.”
Moores’ main enjoyment of snowmobiling, however, still comes from the fantastic landscapes he has been able to see along the trails in the Shuswap.
“For me it’s just about going into new areas,” said Moores, “just being able to go into the backcountry where the scenery is amazing.”
