Each winter in Sicamous, the local club and grooming society spend countless hours grooming over a hundred kilometres of trails and maintaining three cabins in four spectacular riding areas. And thanks to their tireless efforts, Sicamous was the recipient of this year's SnoRidersRider's Choice platinum award for Favourite Groomed Trail Riding.

According to Bruce Moores, president of the Eagle Valley Snowmobile Club, all the work is done to promote and enhance sledding in the Sicamous area.

"We work to ensure that our areas remain open to our sport and to reduce conflicts with other stakeholders and in particular with wildlife," said Moores.

The club works hand in hand with the Eagle Valley Grooming Society to ensure sledding conditions are at their best through the whole season: this involves having a regular trail grooming schedule.

"The society also promotes safe and responsible snowmobiling," said Moores "but its primary responsibility is to run the grooming program for the four sledding areas."

According to Gary Keehn, a member of the Eagle Valley Grooming Society, there are 110 kilometres of trails to maintain during the winter. And this is no simple task, as all four snowmobiling areas—Owlhead, Queest, Blue Lake and Eagle's Pass—are groomed right from the base all the way to the alpine.

"The grooming society is dedicated to allowing easy access to four amazing sledding areas in the Sicamous area by providing groomed trails from the valley floor to these alpine areas," said Tim Corless, president of the Eagle Valley Grooming Society.

He said the grooming society takes great pride in offering smooth-packed trails so that sledders can start their day with ease and save their energy for the top.
