SNOWMOBILING IN Terrace
Extend your sledding season!

The Terrace-Skeena Valley Snowmobile Association can market what few other clubs can—an October to May riding season. That’s because Mother Nature has a winter home in the area, which is about 210 kilometres from Smithers on Highway 16.

Terrace has some of the best riding to be found, the longest drive from the best riding at Sterling Mountain is 45 minutes away. If you want to ride and only want to go a short distance, drive 10 minutes and you’re at Copper Mountain.

Some of the most popular trails are:

Copper and Thornhill Mtn. Range
This snow-coated range consists of three peaks: Copper Mtn., Mt. Thornhill and Mt. Attree. From the parking lot, a road winds up the side of the mountain range offering riders a bird’s eye view of Terrace and the scenic Skeena River Valley. Mt. Attree is recommended for experienced riders who know how to climb the steeps but the Copper Mountain area has terrain that all sledders can negotiate. Access to this area is just 11.3 kilometres from Terrace.

Trapper Mountain
This area situated above the Copper River Valley is one of the first to open to snowmobilers. If you like powder this is where it’s stashed although snowmobiling is limited to areas around the Trapper cabin on top. Later in the season the conditions include a solid base with a powdered topping. Yum.

The area is perfect for club functions including the “Fun Days” events. Tobogganing is also great from the cabin.

Sterling Mountain Range
This is a primo snowmobile patch located northwest of Terrace in the Nass Valley. You get to it via the Sterling forestry road. The trail starts at the end of the road and markers will take you to the cabin at Jack’s Lake. The cabin is also a sign-in facility to adventure land above the treeline and unmarked terrain. Well-travelled paths lead to another cabin in a distant valley and scenery galore.

Big Cedar Range
This is actually an expansion of the Sterling area. A trail has been cut into the Cedar area from the Big Cedar forestry access road allowing safe access to the area. A cabin is also on the drawing board.

Seven Sisters Range
This is very scenic area 50 kilometres east of Terrace. The trail is blazed through old growth timber and heads through alpine meadows to a cabin and carries on above the treeline to a second cabin owned by the trapper. Above the second cabin is open snowmobiling terrain. For more information call the Terrace Tourism Council at 1-800-499-1637.
