FOREST FRINGE, SK
Enchanted Forest
A trail in northern Saskatchewan connects riders across Canada

A SUPERB TRIP: The options are endless for snowmobilers in the Forest Fringe.

Snowmobiles have two main functions: riding for distance and riding for recreation. In the late '90s, the Forest Fringe Snowmobile Trail Association decided that there was no reason why the two activities had to remain mutually exclusive. By joining together with communities, snowmobilers and other associations, the Forest Fringe group created the Trans-Canadian Snowmobile Trail, which runs from one side of Saskatchewan to the other and connects to a trail that goes from Canada's east coast all the way to its west coast.

Trail of happiness
Members of the Forest Fringe Snowmobile Trail Association—formed in 1995—did not want to be the weakest link in the Trans-Canadian Snowmobile Trail, so they got together to build their section of the trail that runs from Cold Lake to Moose Mountain Provincial Park. The construction of the trail has allowed riders from across the nation to experience the rolling hills, deep powder and spectacular ice fishing of Saskatchewan.

"Snowmobilers started travelling and doing vacations that covered great distances," said Emily Grimes of the Forest Fringe Snowmobile Association. "I remember the first time I really heard of the big trips was during Rendezvous '98, when a group travelled almost across Canada. After that, we started meeting people on our trails from all over the place, and we thought we should get together and try to help them out."

Community spirit
The towns and cities that make up the Forest Fringe include riding hot spots like Candle Lake, Dorintosh, Big River, Meadow Lake and Waskesiu. Whether your trip takes you through a farmer's field or to a local pub, riding in this region of Saskatchewan is an enjoyable and challenging experience for snowmobilers from any place in the world.
