| FUN IN THE SUN: Around Hudson Bay, sledders can enjoy the variety of terrain that over 600 kilometres of trails provide. |
Hudson Bay is a great topic of conversation among Saskatchewan snowmobiling enthusiasts because the area boasts a long winter season and well over 600 kilometres of groomed trails.
According to the Hudson Bay Trailriders snowmobile club, you may never ride the same trail twice, with so many kilometres of trail, as well as ungroomed logging roads.
Hudson Bay is the gateway to the Pasquia Hills, an excellent destination for sledders. It is also home to the Wildcat Wilderness area, which is a first-class place to ride because its remoteness has meant that it has remained untouched by human development.
The wilderness area, located about 40 kilometres north of Hudson Bay, covers 21,752 hectares. It is an incredible place to visit, according to the Hudson Bay Trailriders, because it offers riders breathtaking scenery, unspoiled wilderness and an abundance of wildlife. While its rugged terrain makes it difficult to hike in the summer, groomed snowmobile trails provide easier access for exploring during the winter.
Hudson Bay is a snowmobile-friendly town, allowing licensed and insured machines to ride the streets, as long as it is done in a responsible manner.
As for the trails, they offer a wide variety of challenge and fun, according to the Hudson Bay Trailriders. For instance, a trip from Hudson Bay to the village of Weekes by snowmobile is a great ride.
Hudson Bay also has access to a number of lakes, including Leaf Lake and Red Deer Lake, which are ideal spots for ice fishing.
