SNOWMOBILING IN KELVINGTON/PREECEVILLE
No crowds here
This area is an ideal spot for trail riding
Kelvington is famous for producing hockey sensations like Wendel Clark, Barry Melrose and Joey Kocur. In addition to this, Kelvington is also becoming known for its terrific snowmobile trails.
In fact, there are so many of them, you’ll likely never go over the same trail twice during a weekend trip, according to Garth Hariff, a member of the Rough Riders Snowmobile Club.
“The scenery is perfect here,” said Hariff. “There are so many cliffs that overlook the river.”
Comfortable accommodations
According to Hariff’s club, the accommodations in Kelvington and Preeceville are inexpensive and chances are you won’t see crowds of snowmobilers on the nearby trails.
“You can go out on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning and you won’t find anybody else until later in the afternoon,” said Hariff.
The Rough Riders Snowmobile Club, which is based in Preeceville, looks after 300 kilometres of trails, including those in the Kelvington area. This trail system allows visitors to check out the many provincial parks scattered throughout the region.
Greenwater Lake Provincial Park
Snowmobilers can explore over 100 kilometres of snowmobile trails at Greenwater Lake Provincial Park; in an ideal winter, these trails are groomed once a week.
The trails in Greenwater Lake Provincial Park take sledders through beautiful forest settings where wildlife sightings are common. Four strategically places shelters are provided, where snowmobilers can rest and warm up. Each of these shelters is supplied with matches, candles, an airtight heater and wood.
