Yorkton has many attributes that cause it to consistently be ranked among the top snowmobiling areas in Saskatchewan. Not only is the population eager to ride with or help out visiting sledders, the town itself is situated in such a way as to provide snowmobilers with access to over 400 kilometres of groomed trails across the eastern part of the province. Riders can choose between long distance journeys to other towns like Nipawin, Kelvington or Good Spirit Lake or a short jaunt around the snowmobile trails within the city limits.
First of its kind
Yorkton is a trailblazing community in more than one sense of the word. After much deliberation, the city council decided that engaging and aiding the snowmobile community—a decided majority of the city’s populations—would be the best way to support their tax payers and encourage winter tourism.
In order to do so, they declared it legal to snowmobile within the city and created a number of fun and challenging sled routes around its region. The result is that snowmobilers can spend hours on end indulging in their favourite hobby and never be more than half an hour away from a hot cup of cocoa with marshmallows served at their own kitchen table.
Legendary riding
Yorkton is connected to the well-known Route 66, a popular trail in Saskatchewan that winds and weaves through boreal forest, open meadows and the picturesque landscape of Good Spirit Lake Provincial Park.
Warm up shelters are placed at strategic locations throughout the trail system in East Central Saskatchewan and sledders are encouraged to plan picnics or rest stops to keep themselves well-fed and warm enough to thoroughly enjoy every moment of their riding time. |
