April 9-13, 2008 | SUMMIT LAKE, ALASKAArctic Man Ski & Sno-Go ClassicGo big or go home—it's time again for some high-speed race action
Described as the ultimate adrenalin rush, the Arctic Man Ski & Sno-Go Classic is a downhill race that combines the strength of an athlete with the power of a snowmobile. Teams consist of a skier and a snowmobiler. Starting at a summit elevation of 5,800 feet, the skier will plunge 1,700 feet to the bottom of a narrow canyon, where he meets up with his snowmobiling partner, who then pulls the skier 21/4 miles uphill at speeds nearing 86 miles per hour. Once they've reached the top, the team will separate and the skier will drop another 1,200 feet to the finish line. Thousands of spectators from all over Alaska and beyond come to see this amazing event; the 2008 race is sure to deliver the same thrill and excitement. "This event has become that last big fling before spring hits, snow melts and we put away our snowmachines," said Howard Thies, 2007 race director. "This is truly an Alaskan experience. |
