For more than two decades, snowmachine enthusiasts have flocked to Alaska to either compete in or watch riders embark on one of the toughest races known to man—the Tesoro Iron Dog.

Starting at Big Lake, Alaska, the Pro Class route travels through Wasilla and Nome and finishes in Fairbanks. And this is no walk in the park. In addition to logging 1,971 miles in six days, racers must brave temperatures of -60 degrees, speeds of up to 100 miles an hour and some of the must rugged terrain Alaska has to offer.

Racers compete in teams of two and this year, 31 teams have entered the Pro Class so far, including 2007 champions Scott Davis and Todd Palin. Final entry runs from October 1 to November 30, 2007.

The Pro Class starts at 11 a.m. on February 10 but there is a lot going on before and during the race. There is a pre-race drawing reception at the Hilton Hotel Alaska Ballroom and a safety inspection at the Wasilla Sports Complex on February 2. On race day, the festivities start at 10 a.m. and on February 13, there will be a halfway banquet held at the Nome Mini Convention Centre in Nome.

Whether you are one of the brave souls that decide to race or just a snowmobiler looking for a good time, the 25th annual Tesoro Iron Dog will be a blast.
