Yamaha’s Tech GP declares winner
Albertan Ryan Peddie was the champion of the
third annual Tech Grand Prix contest

TECH CHAMP: (L to R) Jeff Waite, national manager of service, Yamaha Motor Canada; Ryan Peddie, Seitzco Motorsports, Tech GP Champion; and Tom Osugi, president of Yamaha Motor Canada.
With hushed anticipation the room fell silent while Andy Gale, Yamaha’s manager of service marketing, paused to read the victor in the 2007 Tech Grand Prix (GP) contest.

Ryan Peddie from Seitzco Motorsports in Okotoks, Alberta, was declared as Yamaha Canada’s top technician, bettering his honourable mention from the last event in 2005.

In what proved to be a very difficult competition, Peddie wisely concentrated his preparation on customer reception and diagnostics.

When asked about his research, Peddie commented, “I was lucky that JC, my boss, let me borrow his R1 last Saturday before I travelled to Toronto.

"I took the bike apart and studied all the components, figuring out potential problems that could arise. I had an inkling the R1 would be the featured machine, and fortunately it was.”

Peddie looked shocked as his name was read, but the wheels started to turn that he had a shot at winning just a few minutes earlier when he picked up the award for best customer reception.

“I’m proud to receive the customer reception award," said Peddie. "At Seitzco, our five-star Yamaha dealer status mandates that we offer exceptional customer service, so I’m happy to say I did well in that portion of the competition. When I won that, I started to think that my chances at winning the GP were getting better since I knew it was a crucial part of the judging criteria.”

After hearing his name called as champion, Peddie spoke to those in attendance: “It is with pride and thanks that I accept the Tech GP title. I’d like to thank those that supported me along the way and everyone involved in the competition, including my fellow competitors. I will do my best representing Canada when I travel to Japan to compete at the world level.”

Apart from his all-expenses-paid trip to Japan, Peddie will also receive a tool storage chest supplied by Snap-On Industrial, a VacuumMate electronic diagnostic tool courtesy of TecMate North America and other Yamaha prizes. Charles Guilbert from Grégoire Sport placed second, while Bloys Dekker from Duncan Motorcycle Sales rounded out the podium in third.

Congratulations to all competitors on another successful Tech GP.
