Learning to "live a little"
Meet four-year breast cancer survivor Tammy Kramer
by JEFFREY COOPER

“In the recovery process you need something to look forward to—a dream or a goal—something really positive, and for me it was snowmobiling,” she said.

A member of this year’s team is four-year breast cancer survivor Tammy Kramer. She first learned about the WOW Relay at a snowmobile trade show in Edmonton two years ago.

Kramer, who lives in Chestermere, Alberta, only started snowmobiling in the spring of 2002 after her fiancee suggested that she “live a little.” She fell in love with the sport and today credits snowmobiling as her true strength for recovering.

“In the recovery process you need something to look forward to—a dream or a goal—something really positive, and for me it was snowmobiling,” she said. “It was new and exciting for me. It took me to places I’d never seen before and wouldn’t have seen otherwise.”

Kramer set up a booth at the recent Calgary snowmobile trade show to help with her fundraising efforts and she has started running and lifting weights in preparation for the physically demanding ride that will take her from one side of Alberta to the other.
