Members of the Prince Albert Snowrunners discovered why Hudson Bay is an excellent place to ride

Throughout the year, members of the Prince Albert Snowrunners get together for several rides and during this past sledding season, they packed up and decided to hit the trails of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan.

Hudson Bay is a popular destination for sledders due to a long winter season, plenty of snow, and lots of sledding opportunities over varying terrain.

"We enjoy this area as it has great trails and usually has lots of snow when our area may be lacking," said Robert Venn, a member of Prince Alberta Snowrunners.

Venn also said there are 100's of miles of ungroomed trails, such as logging roads, to explore. The elevation changes to the north and offers great views for sledders. And if you head out on the trails, be sure to take your camera as Hudson Bay is home to an abundance of wildlife.

"It is common to see deer just about every trip and sometimes moose, timberwolves, coyotes and even caribou." said Venn.

Located to the north of Hudson Bay is the Wildcat Wilderness area, which is an excellent place to ride as its remote location has left the area untouched by human development. And, according to Venn, it is a 140-kilometre round trip, so packing extra gas is a good idea if you want to play.

Hudson Bay is a snowmobile-friendly town and does its best to insure sledders feel at home.

"The town welcomes all snowmobilers with open arms," said Venn.

He added, "We were even welcomed by the local radio station when they found out that our group of 10 were in town from Prince Albert."

So if you are looking for endless wilderness riding, lots of snow and friendly locals, take a hint from the Prince Albert Snowrunners and plan to visit Hudson Bay next winter.
