Family-friendly fun
This club looks forward to providing more safe and enjoyable snowmobiling

HAPPY TRAILS: Riders take a break at Mooswa Lake hut during a club ride.
FUN IN THE SUN: Family Fun Day held June 24 was a fun time for all.
For those of you who don’t really know our club, the Mooswa Lake Snowriders is a family-oriented snowmobile club that maintains 140 kilometres of trail system in eastern Manitoba. Our trails start from the west near Mars Hills and Hwy. 12 (near Beausejour), connect with the east at Milner Ridge and Lac du Bonnet, and take you all the way north to Powerview. Our trails offer a wide range of riding experience—from open dike and field runs to picturesque winding forest trails. There truly is something for everyone.

The Mooswa Lake Snowriders successfully finished off the 2006/2007 snowmobile season ensuring that eastern Manitoba’s reputation of having a top-notch trail system was maintained and enhanced by making many improvements to our section of the system. Things like brushing out narrow trails, opening up blind corners and making sure that trails are well marked increase safety and help ensure an enjoyable ride. We take great pride in ensuring our entire trail system is groomed a minimum of once per week, every week of the riding season. This past year the job was made a little easier thanks to our recently purchased Bombardier Plus ME, which performed its first year for us without major breakdown and only minor repairs needed to the drag.

We shifted into summer mode on June 24, 2007, when the Mooswa Lake Snowriders held our second annual Family Fun Day to show appreciation to the club members and to generally have a good time together outside of the normal snowmobile club atmosphere. The event was held on a beautiful riverside farmyard equipped with horseshoe pits, a nine-hole golf course and a converted barn with a kitchen and a banquet hall loft.

The weather was perfect, as you’d expect from a typical Manitoba summer day—sunny, temperatures in the high 20s and a slight breeze to cool you down as you enjoyed your favourite beverage under the shade of a Manitoba maple tree.

There was the gamut of activities for the whole family; children were entertained with potato sack races, a candy scramble, bicycle decorating contest, etc. Texas horseshoe, bocce ball and regular horseshoe tournaments kept the rest of us entertained and brought out the competitive edge from the unexpected. We even had a grocery scramble for the ladies.
The afternoon was capped off by a tremendous roast beef meal accompanied by a host of pot-luck summertime sides. It’s safe to say that everyone present enjoyed good food, good times and good camaraderie.

This fall we plan to construct a new warm-up hut called Big Foot’s Hideout. It will be located just north of Hwy. 317 on the Brightstone Trail. The addition of this hut supports our goal of ensuring that the snowmobilers’ comfort and safety are our No. 1 priority. The addition of this hut will bring our total count of warm-up huts to four, which currently consist of The Ski-Doo hut, Mooswa Lake hut and what is known as the Red Deer hut.

In the upcoming season we intend to continue providing a safe and enjoyable snowmobiling experience by improving and maintaining our trail system. We also want to ensure that we continue to provide a source of community for our members through events such as club rides and other family-focused activities like our curling funspiel. We believe that our strength is in our people and that without gratitude, camaraderie and friendship, our club and the sport we all love will dwindle. We’d like to thank all of the volunteers for their dedication, support and time.
