From sun to snow
The Hudson Bay Trail Riders look forward to cooler temperatures

| SUPREME SLEDDING: The club is pleased that Hudson Bay won this year's Platinum Award for Favourite Overall Snowmobile Area in Saskatchewan. |
Picture this, folks. One scorching hot Sunday this summer, while sitting at our favourite lake with friends enjoying the five days of heat we get (as you can tell, I’m a sun-worshipper), all of a sudden my mind wanders back to the guys’ conversation next to me. Men are strange creatures. One creature says to the other, “I crossed this lake last November, and there was 12 inches of ice.” The only ice I was accustomed to was floating around in my glass. These two yahoos are thinking about snowmobiling already. I guess I should be grateful they weren’t looking at the bikinis walking by. The boys were talking about torquing this and tweaking that.
As I sat and watched their facial expressions as they visualized themselves crossing the lake and who was going to get to the other side first, I was amazed at these two creatures. They can’t remember their kids’ birthdays—or their own for that matter—but they can remember crossing the lake in November of 2006 and who beat who, with what sled and by how much? Yes, it’s safe to say they are sledheads to the core.
Our club has a busy year ahead of us. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Mildred and Carl Pahlke—the loss of her husband and Carl’s dad is a great loss to our club. Jim was proud to belong to the Hudson Bay Trail Riders Snowmobile Club. He was always willing to help where needed (even if he said it was women’s work. Ha Ha!). His presence will sure be missed, especially his sense of humour, within our club. Jim, you will ride with us always.
Our club has had a busy summer. We sold tickets at our local Heritage Days held in August—along with this we had a float in the parade. We are raffling a 2008 Polaris 500 EFI 4x4 ATV or a 2008 Polaris 600 Shift snowmobile. Tickets are $10 each or three for $20. These rec vehicles are supplied with assistance from Lewellin’s Sales of Hudson Bay.
Our club would like to congratulate Peter and Agnes Lewellin of Lewellin’s Sales and Service in Hudson Bay. They have moved into their new shop and showroom. They still offer the same great service for over 35 years, just from new surroundings. Lewellin’s has always supported our club. Whether it be a shop bay to fix our groomer, selling raffle tickets, a loaf of sandwiches or cleaning trails, we can count on their support throughout the year. Congratulations to Peter, Agnes and staff—enjoy your new home.
We are hosting the annual provincial snowmobile festival to be held here February 22 to 24, 2008. Plans are still being finalized and it promises to be a fun-filled weekend.
We once again have bragging rights, compliments of the SnoRiders Rider’s Choice Awards.
The Hudson Bay Trail Riders have been chosen as winners in three categories:
PLATINUM Award for Favourite Overall Snowmobiling Area in Saskatchewan;
BRONZE Award for Favourite Scenic Snowmobiling Area;
BRONZE Award for Favourite Area for Family Snowmobiling.
Come and enjoy what so many others have seen and ridden. For further details of the festival program and accommodations please call Hudson Bay Tourism at 306-865-2263.
