Kyle MacDonald’s excellent adventure to Yahk
SnoRiders West made Kyle MacDonald, of One Red Paperclip fame, an offer he couldn't refuse: A snowmobile trip to Yahk, British Columbia. Putting aside the fact that he said on national TV he would never make a trade in that small B.C. community he came, he snowmobiled, he traded. Here is a pictorial report of his complete trip.
By Kerry Shellborn
When SnoRiders West first heard about Kyle MacDonald’s quest to trade a red paperclip to a house, he had just traded for a snowmobile. He then proceeded to say on CBC’s "The Hour" that he would go anywhere in the world to make his next trade except for Yahk, British Columbia. Yahk is only 40 minutes West of where we produce SnoRiders West and this website so so we just had to make made MacDonald an offer he couldn't refuse: A snowmobile trip to Yahk.
To his credit MacDonald accepted the offer and was able to make not one but two trades live with TV personality George Stoumboulopoulos. The second trade was with Bruno Taillefer who accepted the SnoRiders West winter get-a-way for a Cintas cube van. MacDonald actually drove cross-country in the cube van and was able to deliver our snowmobile in person. Thanks, Kyle—you exceeded our wildest expectations!

MacDonald drew fans to Yahk from as far away as Seattle, Washington. This group of fans had been following the red paperclip trades via the internet and showed up in Yahk sporting the fashionable red paperclip t-shirts shown here. |

Authentic Bavarian cuisine at the Old Bauernhaus was the perfect ending to a wonderful Kootenay adventure. The entire red paperclip team wined and dined in this 350-year-old former Bavarian farm house. It was taken apart, transported and reconstructed at its present location in Kimberley "The Bavarian City of the Rockies." |
We at SnoRiders West would like to thank those who helped us put together the winter get-a-way package for Kyle and his trading partners.
Thanks to Bruno Taillefer and Garry Jecrois of Cintas, who traded their great looking cube van for our winter get-away package to Yahk and the Kootenays; to Dan & Chris Plamondon of Powder Hounds snowmobile tours, who outfitted Kyle MacDonald and his trading partners during the snowmobile tour; to Lonnie Schick at the Trickle Creek Residence Inn, who provided first class accommodations for Kyle MacDonald, Bruno Taillefer and Garry Jecrois; to Patti Thompson of Kelsey’s Restaurant, who invited the Red Paperclip crew for lunch during their ski day; to Chris Elder at Kimberley Alpine Resort, who provided rentals and passes for a day on the slopes; and to Michelle and Nils Fuhge, owners of The Old Bauernhaus, who provided a Baviarian meal in a centuries-old European log home that was transported from Europe to the Kootenay Rockies!
