Red paperclip goes cubist
MacDonald scores a cube van; trader accepts SnoRiders West offer

Even the best magicians in the world could not turn a single paperclip into a cube van—but Kyle MacDonald did.

MacDonald recently accepted an offer for a cube van in exchange for one trip to Yahk from a U.S.-based uniform company called Cintas. It seems that one of MacDonald's cousins by the name of Ricky used to work for Cintas. Ricky gave MacDonald his used Cintas shirt as a joke one year for Christmas and MacDonald decided he would wear the shirt as his official trading uniform for his One Red Paperclip trades.

“Now the joke’s on Ricky,” said MacDonald.

Over the past few months, national and international media attention has given MacDonald and his Cintas shirt lots of publicity, and it was only a matter of time before one of the bigwigs at Cintas Corporation caught wind of MacDonald’s ingenious trading scheme.

The only trouble was, although he currently lives in Montreal and his first name is Kyle, MacDonald started his web blog in Vancouver and the name tag on his Cintas shirt says, “Ricky.”

Enter Bruno (a.k.a. the bigwig) from Cintas. When Bruno found out about MacDonald’s project and the Cintas connection, he knew he had to get involved.

The only trouble was that he started looking for a guy named Ricky who lived in Vancouver. Apparently there are no Rickys in Vancouver that fit the description of the “One Red Paperclip guy.”

To make a long story short, Bruno and MacDonald finally got together and had a good chat over a couple of cold bevvies. MacDonald now has himself one cube van and Bruno is coming to British Columbia’s Kootenay Rockies for an all-inclusive winter getaway—including a snowmobile trip to Yahk—courtesy of SnoRiders West magazine.

The crew here at SnoRiders West is extremely excited about introducing Kyle MacDonald and Bruno to this beautiful corner of British Columbia. The trip is tentatively planned for February 8th to 12th—keep checking snoriderswest.com for more updates.
