CRANBROOK, B.C.
A great place to adventure
Come see what the largest city in the Kootenays has to offer

Top attraction: Fort Steele Heritage Town is a lovely spot for a winter stroll.

Whether you are looking for a superb outdoor experience or want to spend a weekend shopping, dining and exploring the city’s indoor offerings, Cranbrook is just the place to entertain, accommodate and show visitors a good time.

WHAT TO SEE & DO:
Head for the hills
Cross-country skiers will be impressed with the large number of marked trails and loops that can be found within minutes of the city, including Gold Creek’s South Star Recreation Trails.

Fort Steele
Fort Steele is a pioneer boom town brought back to life with more than 60 heritage shops and display buildings. There are a number of events held throughout the year, including winter activities such as sleigh rides. For information visit www.fortsteele.bc.ca or call (250) 417-6000.

Lakes
Cranbrook has dozens of lakes within a short drive of the city including Peckham’s Lake, Moyie Lake, Wasa Lake and Jim Smith Lake. These beautiful recreational areas are great for ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and even tobogganing.

Cranbrook Rec Plex
The Cranbrook Rec Plex features a top-notch pool facility with a wave pool and hot tub, as well as a large arena that is home to the 2002 Memorial Cup champions—the WHL’s Kootenay Ice. A number of other sporting events and concerts are held at the venue throughout the year.

Ski resorts
Because of the convenient and central location of Cranbrook, alpine skiers and snowboarders are able to choose from four world-class resorts all within a short drive of Cranbrook: Kimberley, Fernie, Panorama and Fairmont Hot Springs ski resorts.

Snowmobiling
Nestled in the Rocky Mountains and a hub for year-round recreational opportunities, Cranbrook, B.C., is a sledding utopia that offers riders the chance to play hard, have fun and travel hundreds of kilometres of trails that stretch over ever-changing terrain. During a typical day of snowmobiling in this area riders will come across everything from meadows and lakes to mountainous slopes and rolling hills. The most popular spot for snowmobiling around Cranbrook is Lumberton, located about 25 minutes south of the city off Highway 3/95. This large region reaches elevations of 7,000 feet and is great for beginners and intermediate sledders, as it offers plenty of basins accessed from well-groomed and ungroomed trails.

The Canadian Museum of Rail Travel
This unique museum preserves an important piece of Canada’s past and is sure to delight young and old alike. It is home to the only remaining set of passenger cars from the Canadian Pacific’s 1929 Trans-Canada Limited. The Canadian Museum of Rail Travel is open Tuesday through Saturday and features guided tours, as well as a gift shop where visitors can purchase souvenirs.
