ONE RED PAPERCLIP
SnoRiders attends housewarming festivities
It was one big party for the Saskatchewan town of Kipling as they celebrated the arrival of the red paperclip guy
by KIRSTEN ARMLEDER

During September 1 to 4, approximately 4,000 people gathered at the small town of Kipling to officially welcome online trader Kyle MacDonald to the community.

MacDonald, who is originally from Belcarra, B.C., has been a busy man. Within one year, he managed to trade one red paperclip for one house in Kipling, Saskatchewan. Now, he, and fiancee, Dominique Dupuis,—Kyle proposed to Dom at the end of the weekend using the original red paperclip as an engagement ring—plan to stay in Kipling for at least a year.

Festivities during the event—haled as "Saskatchewan's Biggest Housewarming Party"—included live music, hot air baloon rides, kids play areas, official on-stage presentations, great food and much more.

Here are some photo highlights that SnoRiders representative Jeffrey Cooper, who attended the event, brought back with him:

ON THE ROAD: SnoRiders trader Jeff Cooper was very excited to be so close to Kipling, SK, after driving 1,058 kilometres from Cranbrook, B.C.; it was 12:33 a.m. and he only had 32 kilometres to go! ALL SMILES: Cintas traders pose in their "I redpaperclip Kipling" t-shirts in front of Kyle's new house at 503 Main St., Kipling, SK.
PAPERCLIP COMRADES: Kyle poses with the first trader, Corinna, who is wearing the original one red paperclip around her neck in a wooden frame. PAPERCLIP HOUSE: A giant red paperclip made from PVC tubing and painted red, proudly points to Kyle and Dom's new house at 503Main St., Kipling, SK.
STANDING TALL: Kyle stands on top of his "pimped" Toyota Corolla to pose with RCMP officers on Main Street. A WELCOME GIFT: During the "official" presentations ceremony on Sunday afternoon, Kyle and Dom were presented with a very nice housewarming gift: A brand new Can-Am Outlander ATV from Bombardier.
ON DEMAND: Just moments after the official announcement, Kipling resident Nolan Hubbard reacts on stage to the news that he has been selected for the speaking role in Corbin Bersen's Hollywood movie, "Donna on Demand." More than 80 people auditioned for the role. A PAPERCLIP RING: Kyle and Dom just moments after Kyle proposed using the original red paperclip as an engagement ring.
MAYOR MACDONALD: On Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, the Mayor of Kipling handed over the gavel and made Kyle "Mayor for a Day." PAPERCLIP TIMELINE: Kyle and 12 of the 14 traders posed under a banner that illustrates each of the trades that led from one red paperclip to one house in Kipling, in just one year.
