Some clubs in Manitoba are reaching out to extend their member base

From northern areas like The Pas and Flin Flon to Elie and Fannystelle in the southern part of the province, Manitoba boasts wonderful sledding opportunities.
In The Pas, the Kelsey Trail Sno-Riders actively participate in community events, such as the Northern Manitoba Trapper’s Festival, held this year from February 18 to 22. Members also plan club rides and put in many volunteer hours maintaining the trails for everyone to enjoy.
As some of the communities in Manitoba are somewhat small, snowmobile enthusiasts in certain parts of the province have decided to expand their clubs to include other communities in their region. For example, the Cross Country Snow Drifters snowmobile club has members from around the areas of Elie, the Assiniboine River, Springstein, Fannystelle, Elm Creek and La Salle.
Cam Goertzen, the vice-president of the Cross Country Snow Drifters, said the club has a core group of members who are dedicated to volunteering their time to put up signs and groom countless kilometres of trails.
“Once a week we try and get out there and regroom the trails,” said Goertzen. “We try to do it before the weekend and we make sure that the signs are up…There are so many signs within a mile to make it safe.”
