Johnson
Cutter
Can you tell me the year and model for this sleigh for
a Johnson? Mary
Thanks for the great photos of your snowmobile cutter
or sleigh. Judging from the colour of the sleigh in the
picture you sent us it would appear that you have a 1965-68
Johnson Cutter Sleigh. They were designed to be pulled
around by your snowmobile, thus really making snowmobiling
a family sport. They were particularly popular in the
late 60s when snowmobiling was first catching on.
A similar sleigh was manufactured by Evinrude, called
the Sleigh-Mate. (Both Johnson and Evinrude were made
by OMC.) Weve posted a picture of one from an old
Evinrude Skeeter adas you can see its very
similar to one in your picture.
We
recently saw two Johnson Cutters listed for sale; one
was for $400 and the other was $375, plus we recently
saw an Evinrude Sleigh-Mate listed for $350.
Thats
about all we can tell you. From your picture your Johnson
Cutter looks like its in great condition.

Restoring
a Johnson sled
JANUARY 21/03
I recently picked up a Johnson sled. She needs a lot of work,
but it runs and its got reverse! On the engine tag the
model is 225-w, and a decal on the side reads 437. Can you
help me out on finding out more about this sled?
Chris
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your inquiry about your old Johnson sled. Your
information most closely matches a 1970 Johnson 25-200R snowmobile.
The 70 Johnson had an OMC 437cc engine with a Tillotson
carburetor.
The model number you gave us doesnt correspond exactly
to the information we have, the models we have are as follows.
. .
1970 Johnson J250-OMC 437cc
25-200R-OMC 437cc
25-200RC-OMC 437cc
25-200RS-OMC 437cc
A fair price for these machines according to the price surveys
we have would seem to be in the $350 US to $1000 US range
depending of course on their condition.
Hope this helps. Feel free to send us some photos of your
machines for Old Sled Zone. All the best and let us know how
you make out.
