OLD
SLED ZONE
The yellow baron
This dashing young sled pilot in the flying scarf is
none other than 65-year-old Florian Mamer of Dorintosh,
Saskatchewan who has 35 years of riding under his belt.
According to Joe Twidale who sent in the information
and photo, Mamer is a member of the Waterhen River Runners
Trail Club and likes to wing it on his 1969 Ski-Doo
Olympic 300 while towing a homemade trail drag.
Mamer purchased the broken sled eight years ago for
a mere $110 and nursed Old Yeller back to
health with tender loving care. The Ski-Doo has a 300cc-Rotax
engine that needs only a couple of pulls on the start
cord to come to life. Mamer likes the machine for its
agility on narrow back trails. He also scoots around
on a 1996 Polaris 500cc and has logged 8,000 kilometres
on it.
