It’s cool enough when you see a picture of a six-year-old boy catching air on his sled, looking like a natural athlete. When you find out that the well-composed action photos were taken by his nine-year-old sister, you want to know more about this remarkable Whitehorse family. Their father, Mark, gave SnoRiders permission to interview his kids.
“We don’t insist that they do anything in particular, just that they do something,” said Daniels. “They have to do something active, they need to do something artistic, they need to do well in school and they need to behave themselves.”
Natalie:
How old are you?
I’m nine.
How long have you taken pictures?
I’ve been taking pictures since my mom let me hold a camera. I was maybe four or three. I got my own camera on my eighth birthday.
What kind of camera do you use?
A Kodak Easyshare. It’s bright pink.
What other things do you like to take pictures of?
I like to take pictures of pretty much anything—but I really like to take pictures of people.
What other hobbies do you have?
I’m in dance three days a week. I take piano once a week. I’m in the skipping club and reading club at school. I like to cook. I like to downhill ski.
Zane:
How old are you?
I am six.
When did you get your snowmobile?
When I was three I rode the sled. My sister got too big for it, so now it’s mine.
What tricks can you do?
The Superman and the splits in the air when I’m jumping.
Can you start your snowmobile by yourself?
No. My dad does it.
What do you want to do when you get bigger?
Be a person that can do all sorts of tricks on my sled.
